1. Original Colur Of Red Fort Was Not Red!
You must be surprised to know that the original color of this Fort was not red instead, it was white.
According to the Archaeological Survey of India, many parts of the building were made of limestone.
Later, this fort was painted red by Britishers, because the limestone started chipping off.
2. Original Name Of The Fort
The original name of this fort was not red fort. This place was originally called Quila-e-Mubarak or the Blessed fort.
Later Britishers gave it the name of red fort.
And so, the local people of India translated it to “Lal Quila”.
3. Time to Construct The Fort
It took almost 10 years to construct this fort. The construction was started by Ustam Hamid and Ustad Ahmed in 1638 and was completed in 1648.
4. Relation of Kohinoor Diamond with the King of the Fort
Kohinoor is one of the famous diamonds in the world whose origin is India. This diamond is one of the costly diamonds in the world.
Red Fort was made when Shah Jahan decided to move his capital from Agra to Delhi.
So, Shah Jahan was the first person who kind of owned the fort.
And Kohinoor Diamond was the part of Shah Jahan’s Crown.
Moreover, he used to sit at his Diwan-e-Khas after wearing the crown containing Kohinoor.
5. The Lahori Gate In Red Fort!
There are two gates in this Fort. The main gate is called Lahori Gate, while the other one is called Delhi Gate.
Shah Jahan named the first gate Lahore gate because of his attraction towards Pakistan.

6. The Water Gate
There is a water gate in this Fort, from where water can go outside the fort. Basically, it is a seashore of the Yamuna River.

On every Independence day of India (15 August), the Prime Minister of India comes to Red Fort and gives a speech.
8. World Heritage Site
Seeing the importance of Red Fort, UNESCO declared it as a World Heritage Site.

When Britishers defeated Bahadur Shah and took over this Fort, they made Bahadur Shah captive inside his own fort.

The history of Red Fort started with the date 12 May 1638.
On this date, Shah Jahan commissioned the construction of the fort, after he decided to move his capital from Agra to Delhi.
On 13 May 1638 (Scared Islamic Month Of Muharram), the construction of the fort began.
The architect of the fort was Ustam Ahmed Lahori. He was also the architect of the Taj Mahal.
Under the supervision of Shah Jahan, the construction of the fort was completed on 6 August 1648.
Red Fort was the representative of Delhi. In other words, the one who was having control of Red Fort was considered the King of Delhi.
Aurangzeb (Successor of Shah Jahan), added Moti Masjid (Pearl Mosque) to the emperor’s private quarters.
This fort was the seat for Mughal empire for around 200 years. After that the fort, fell into the hands of Britishers.
Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last Mughal Emperor who was coronated here in 1837.
During that time it was said that his powers were limited only inside the fort.
